The Association of Mine Managers of Zimbabwe provides a platform for mining industry professionals to share and discuss

The AMMZ has been in existence for the past 51 years, and was formed in 1972 to advance the science and practice of Mining and supporting disciplines such as Survey, Geology, and Metallurgy. It is a vehicle for information exchange and dissemination on good practices and seeks to promote the study and growth of Mining and allied disciplines. The AMMZ is an affiliate of the Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe

Here are our planned dates for the Annual General Meetings and Council meetings.

Council Meetings occur monthly and the AGM takes place once a year as per the name.

  • Executice Council meetings - Last Friday of every month

The main agendas for the annual general meetings would be to follow up on the minutes from the previous meeting to see if the discussed things where done, to introduce a new Presidium and vote for new executive council.

The AGM and Conference are yearly events the AMMZ hosts.

Its meant to bring together over two hundred mine managers and executives who drive over 90% of the country’s mineral production. In addition, the conference will include captains of industry in the local and international mining landscape

Press releases

The Association of Mine Managers Zimbabwe have press releases they give to the public quarter annually.

The releases come out the first day of every quarter.

Click Here To Register for the 2023 AMMZ AGM and Conference

Registration fee for attendance of the event is US$600.00 per person. The registration fees are to be paid to the Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe, Accounts Office, 20 Mt Pleasant Drive, Mt Pleasant, Harare or deposited into the Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe Bank Account. Invoices and banking details can be obtained from the Chamber of Mines Accounts Office via the email address: accounts@chamines.co.zw All participants are required to pay the registration fees.

Team

Our Executive council members

Holds a BSc. (Hons) Mining Engineering from The University of Zimbabwe and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the National University of Science and Technology. Completed Management Development Program and Senior Executive Development Program with GIBBS and Harvard Business School. Has over 17 years of mining experience with Buchwa Iron Mining, Pan African Mining, How Mine and Blanket Mine in various capacities from Graduate Engineer, Mine Captain, Underground Manager, Mine Manager and General Manager. Is also the President of the Mine Rescue Association of Zimbabwe.

Elton Gwatidzo

President

Holds a BSc Honours Degree in Mining Engineering from the University of Zimbabwe and currently an MSc Mining Engineering candidate with same institution. Has over 15 years underground mechanised mining experience with Zimplats and Unki Mines. Currently employed by AngloAmerican Platinum (Unki Mines) as a Business Improvement Manager.

Abel Makura

Vice President

He is a Mining Engineer with over 16 years industry experience. He is currently the Mining Manager at Dallaglio Investments' Eureka Gold Mine. He holds a BSc Honours in Mining Engineering from University of Zimbabwe, an MBA and a Post Graduate Certificate in Business Research both from Edinburgh Business School in Scotland. He is the Past President of the Association of Mine Managers of Zimbabwe.

Coburn Katanda

Past President

responsible for Finance and fund raising projects. He has 21 years mining experience. He is currently Mine Manager at Zimplats , Ngwarati mine. He holds a Masters in Business Management from the University of Gloustershire, a Diploma in mining from The Zimbabwe School of mines.

Cloete Munjoma

PR, Finance and Admin

responsible for Technical visits. He has 14 years open pit and underground mining experience. He is currently works as a Mine Manager for one of the Zimplats Ngezi underground mines. He holds a B Sc. Hons in Mining Engineering (UZ).

Tawanda Mutiswa

Special Projects

Works for the Mine Manager for Mupani Mine for the Australian listed Zimbabwe Platinum Mines (Zimplats) a subsidiary of the Implats Group. He is a astute business leader with 18years experience in several mineral commodities namely asbestos, platinum and gold. He has worked in several mining houses in Zimbabwe under several bluechip companies. Harmony holds a BSc Hons in Mining Engineering from the UZ and a Masters in Mining Engineering (MSc) from the University of Witwatersrand. He holds other several professional and leadership qualifications. He currently serves as a council member of the Association of Mine Managers of Zimbabwe. He is a former brigadesman in the Mine Rescue team. Harmony is affiliated to the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM member).

Harmony Muzhizhizhi

Council Member

He has over 20 years experience in mining chemicals supply. Currently he is the Business Manager- Mining for Acol Chemical Holdings Pvt Ltd

Ray Chiridza

Council Member

a registered professional mining engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa with specialisation in mine planning. He graduated with a BSc Hons in Mining Engineering from the University of Zimbabwe in 2002 and has published papers on mine planning and slope steeping through the SAIMM. He has 20 years work experience in the mining industry ranging from chrome, platinum, diamonds and gold in both production and mine planning. Alfred has previously worked as a Planning Engineer and Principal Mining Engineer for Gem Diamonds where he worked with the world renowned McKinsey during the company business transformation where he led the implementation of steeper pit slopes and mining contract re-negotiation achieving sustainable savings of over US$15 million per annum. In line with observations from leading rock mechanics experts from SRK and Itasca, the Letšeng Mine pit slopes are arguably among the best in world. Alfred Madowe

Council Member

The Mine Manager for one of Zimbabwe’s listed Nickel producer, Trojan Nickel Mine a subsidiary of Bindura Nickel Corporation. He is a business leader with experience in several mineral commodities namely asbestos, diamonds, coal, gold, cement and nickel. He worked in different places in Zimbabwe and some exposure in Canada under several bluechip companies. Tirivashe is a holder of BSc Hons in Mining Engineering graduate and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Zimbabwe. He holds several leadership qualifications. He served in various industry roles amongst many other assignments: Board member for the Zimbabwe Government Mining Full Blasting Licence Chamber of Mines Mine Managers Association President, Vice President and council member. Southern African institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM member) Mine Rescue Association of Zimbabwe Brigadesman. He has been a member of the AMMZ council since 2010.

Tirivashe Eddington Vere

Council Member

Mzi Chizura is a Mining engineer, with over 17 years of experience in Mining, Finance, Business Strategy, Audit, Business and Project Valuations including experience in the U.S and European markets. Mzi trained as a graduate mining engineer with Anglo American before joining PwC to pursue his articles. He brings a unique ensemble of Skills in Mining Engineering, Corporate Finance, Customer relations, International trade including diamond trade. Currently head of Business Development for Sandvik Zimbabwe, since 2017. Before joining Sandvik, Mzi was with Murowa diamonds where had spent three years in Business Analysis and three years in Mine Management.

Has over 16 years open pit and underground mining, drilling and blasting and explosives technical and sales experience. Holds a Certificate of Competence in Explosives Engineering for Surface and Underground Mines, Post Grad Diploma in Project Managament, MBA and Bsc Hons Mining Engineering (UZ).
